UW-Parametric lay out | RD3 |2020
The development is not only about the parametrization of a layout (scale, rules of repartition) but also on the” tiles” itsself, glass block, graphic pattern, shading elements and on their properties, transparency, translucency, porosity, shading factor.

Elxir devotes about 50% of its activity to R&D, either for clients or for internal development projects.

The first direction of research is inherited from research carried out within RFR sas is focused on the development and optimization of atypical envelopes, mainly by their shape / geometry. An approach that creatively blends existing or more innovative geometry and manufacturing and construction technologies

This teamwork has been the subject of several publications

The second direction is focused on their use of light and glass as a means of architectural expression. This work is based on physical experiments but also virtual prototyping tools in photometric simulation.

See expression / light / Photometry.

During his activity within ASI and RFR, P. Bompas worked mainly on “5-legged sheep”, these complex projects either by their forms, the technologies or materials envisaged or by the multiplicity of interfaces with other bodies.

Whether it is the development of a pavilion in one month between the first drawing to the delivery of the first pieces on the site as was the case with the Vivarium of the Museum of Natural History in NYC, or the final development, the “flying carpet”, the suspended deck of a walkway made of aluminum extrusions shaped and perforated to diffuse hot or cold air, or the realization of a 6 x 6 m screen in cast aluminum , “innovating in the building insdustry does not necessarily come from the technology used (which is most often known), but from the way in which it is diverted or transferred to create new use in a context little motivated by novelty.
